Patterns, there is something about them that has always intrigued me.
With love, from Haakon
My interest and love for drawing flowers during my high school years earned me the nickname “flower boy”. Even though it was used in a jokingly manner, I’ve been proudly wearing it ever since. Many years later my interest resurfaced and drawings with detailed floral patterns became a mandatory gift to family members, close friends and my girlfriend. As a result the floral pattern flourished into a personal symbol of love, admiration and friendship.
Blomstereng is a collection of prints with various 'flower fields' using the same detailed floral pattern as a motive. While the drawings I gifted were highly improvised and hence random in terms of how the flowers appeared, the floral pattern of Blomstereng consist of 70 distinct hand drawn flowers shown in two different blooming stages. Each flower draw both its name and characteristics from a friend or a family member, further emphasising friendship as the core theme of the pattern itself and Blomstereng in general.
Each flower is also given a name, typical characteristics and two different flowering stages to merge reality and fiction and make them come alive as stylistic illustrations of real flowers found in nature. All this is done with the aim to make it easier for people to relate and connect to the flowers and the people they are inspired by. Hopefully the prints can flourish into a symbol of friendship for others as well.
Just as no flower field is truly similar or experienced the same way, each print is given a unique floral pattern making every drawing one of a kind. Through digital tools the flowers are randomly populated within the prints motif, making it possible for each drawing to be truly unique. The aim is to make one of a kind prints available for an affordable price.
Today after months of planning and getting ready to do this, I’m proud to present Blomstereng, a meadow from my childhood.
